Thunder Dominate Grizzlies, Go Up 3-2 In Series

05/11/11

The Oklahoma City Thunder dominate the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 5 by the score of 99-72. Putting them up in the series 3-2 heading back to Memphis for Game 6.

The Thunder started out flat during the first quarter, but that was to be somewhat expected since these two teams did just play a triple overtime game.

That didn't stop the Thunder squad from practicing the very next day. Coach Scott Brooks had called for no practice to give his men some rest, but the hunger of those Thunder players had them out there practicing less than 14 hrs after playing the previous game. This group can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and are making a run at it now.

The Thunder get a huge win by the margin of 27 pts, and all while only getting 30 pts from their stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Any person hearing the Thunder only got 30 total pts from their two best players would almost automatically think that they lost that game.

Huge bench play, and defense put the Thunder over the top in Game 5. The Thunder got 53 bench pts, 18 of those coming from Daequan Cook. Cook hit 6 of 7 shots, with 4 of those being 3 pt shots.

The Grizzlies shot an awful 35.9% from the field, and Marc Gasol was the only Grizzlie player to score in double digits. Mike Conley shot 16 times, and Tony Allen 13 himself. That is way too many shots for a point guard, and a guy who is primarily out there for defense.

Lucky for the Grizzlies they will have a chance to even the series up at 3-3 when they go back home to Memphis to play game 6. They better come out and play extremely hard this next game, because I get the sense that the Thunder will bring everything they have to put the Grizzlies away.

Will we see our first Game 7 of this years NBA Playoffs?
